Portland's West Haven – Silva neighborhood is located just north of Beaverton and Highway 26 between Cedar Mill and Sylvan – Highlands. This large, primarily residential community has a grocery store, a few markets, the Biscuits Café, the Catlin Gabel School and Vincent Hospitals East Pavilion. It's also home to several parks such as Merit Orchard Park, Mitchell Park, Tilbury Memorial Park in the park at the West Tualatin elementary school located in the center of the community. It's a great location for those that work close by either the school, neighboring services and businesses or at the St. Vincent Medical Center.

West Haven-Sylvan History

This Portland neighborhood got its start back in 1850 when Nathan B Jones settled at the head of Tanner Creek and plotted out lots for the community he originally called Zion Town, probably named after Mount Zion, a summit located about a mile to the southeast. However, because there was already a Zion post office, a resident suggested the name Sylvan from the Roman deity. The post office was established in 1890 but closed in 1906 and today, this community remains a census-designated place in both Washington and Multnomah counties and is one of the premier Northwest Portland neighborhoods.

The largest landmark is the Providence St. Vincent Medical Center offering several clinics, campuses, and medical facilities as well as easy access onto the sunset highway running east and west into downtown Portland.

At the northeast corner of the community is a QFC, Pet Hospital, pizza and cafés, and several other services and amenities at the Barnes Miller Village shopping mall.

West Haven-Sylvan Real Estate

Most of the northern end of this community is residential with homes priced from $400,000 up to $1 million. Depending on the specific neighborhood, there may be the occasional homeowner association, but it's fairly rare considering most homes were built in the 1970s to the 1990s. Each lot is approximately 7000 to 11,000 ft.² with one and two-story homes from three and four bedrooms and 2 to 4 bathrooms. Most homes are between 1200 ft.² and 2500 ft.².
