Relocating to Downtown Tigard

Main Street's identity as Tigard's center dates from the construction of an electric commuter train line in 1910. Rapid growth occurred around Main Street in Tigard.  Many commercial buildings were constructed which housed businesses such as restaurants, grocery stores, a dance hall, a blacksmith, and a livery stable.

Downtown Tigard offers an international blend of restaurants, world-class paddle tennis play and instruction, fine whiskeys, specialty beers, martial arts, and self-defense instruction, specialty jewelry, designer consignment clothing, scuba gear and instruction, fresh and saltwater fishing gear, stationery, car repair, banking, dry cleaning, and the seasonal Tigard Farmers Market.  Take a walk down Tigard’s Main Street and it may be difficult to remember how it looked just a few years ago.

The Tigard Chamber of Commerce and other agencies revitalize this 193-acre area located just east of Pacific Highway between Hall Boulevard and Main Street. This group of business owners, property owners, and other stakeholders worked to leverage private and public resources to revitalize downtown, creating a mixed-use destination spot that is very walkable.  The City of Tigard and the Tigard Downtown Alliance have focused on bringing more local art to Downtown Tigard.

Preliminary design work has started on Downtown’s Universal Plaza, a city park and event space large enough to hold major events. Conceptual plans feature a splash pad, tree canopy maze, artwork, and tool-sharing pavilion.

TIGARD FARMERS MARKET

Sundays, 9 a.m.–1:30 p.m. May through October corner of Tigard Street and Main Street. With about seven farms and more than 35 vendors, the Tigard Farmers Market brings fresh local products to the Tigard community. You’ll enjoy entertainment, delicious food, children's activities, and more.

FANNO CREEK TRAIL

This regional trail extends 15 miles from Tualatin to Portland. Passing through Tigard, Beaverton, and Washington County, the trail is a paved, multi-use pathway for walkers, runners, bicyclists, and nature enthusiasts of all ages.

TIGARD STREET HERITAGE TRAIL

The Tigard Street Heritage Trail uses a three-quarter-mile inactive rail corridor and provides a safe, off-street trail connecting to Tigard’s Downtown  It includes lighting, landscaping, trail amenities, and cultural components. A small plaza called Rotary Plaza has also been developed with amenities where the trail meets Main Street.

The City is working to make downtown a place where people want to be. With new residents, businesses, and development downtown there is higher customer demand for on-street parking.
