The Hillside neighborhood sits just west of downtown Portland and the Goose Hollow, Nob Hill, and Northwest District. It is primarily residential with Macleay Park taking up the northwest quadrant of the community. Hillside is also home to Pittock Mansion, a local icon and historic landmark featuring a 23 room home built in 1914, which now boasts a museum,. Furnishings, scenic views, and gardens.

Portland Hillside neighborhood is located in West Hills and is anchored by the Hillside Community Center. The neighborhood offers sports fields, basketball courts,, and meeting spaces and is adjacent to neighboring Forest Park, offering restaurants, bars, shops, and of course the park itself. There are several parks within Hillside as well including Atoms Garden, Hillside Community Center, and Hillside Park.

Living in Hillside

Portland's Hillside neighborhood is wrapped up like a little secret. There are narrow streets around every corner, beautiful homes overlooking the valleys and one of the most intriguing landscapes in the Portland area. At the center is Hillside Park, home of the community center. This was once a school in the 1940s and then became an artists co-op center until the early 1970s. At the risk of being demolished and developed into condominiums, local citizens United to purchase the facility and today, it remains a fantastic recreational center operated and maintained by Portland Parks and Recreation.

Hillside Schools

Residents in the Hillside neighborhood are typically assigned to the Chapman elementary school, the West Sylvan middle school, and the Lincoln high school. All of these are in the Portland school district system. However, Hillside is fairly close to Beaverton so if you prefer a variance in the Beaverton School District, Hillside residents can apply.
